blueberries are for anyone. \u00a0It might be grey and gloomy and wet out (why the heck did I think it was a good idea to run at the beach today? \u00a0Holy Hurricane Bobby!), but it’s <a href=\"http:\/\/lovinglocal.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Farmers Market Week<\/a> and when it’s Farmers Market Week, you go to the market. \u00a0Rain or shine.<\/p>\n<p>After nearly blowing out to sea, I hightailed it in my Spandex to the South Boston Farmers Market just before closing time (the market runs Mondays in the W Broadway public lot from 12-6). \u00a0Apparently– even though it’s Farmers Market Week– the farmers do <em>not <\/em>show up rain or shine. \u00a0Only the brave soul from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.farmfresh.org\/food\/farm.php?farm=1271\" target=\"_blank\">Freitas Farm in Marlborough<\/a> turned out. \u00a0And he brought his finest blueberries. \u00a0And I left inspired. \u00a0And hungry.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Blueberries-Picture-Puffins-Robert-McCloskey\/dp\/014050169X\" target=\"_blank\">one of my favorite childhood books<\/a>, I give you <strong>Blueberries for<span style=\"text-decoration:line-through;\"> <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration:line-through;\"><strong>Sal<\/strong><\/span><strong> Your Pal<\/strong>. \u00a0Okay, fine. \u00a0It’s blueberry crisp, but how could you<em> not<\/em> think about snuggling up with a warm dessert and a good book on a day like this?<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2156\" (squashed is okay, fuzzy is not… ew)<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup of old fashioned oats<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 cup of light brown sugar<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons of unsalted butter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure \u00a0Toss your blueberries in a bake-safe dish, but be sure to save your blueberry quart packaging (I’ll be back later this week with a recycled quart…). \u00a0Soften your butter and mix with oats and brown sugar. \u00a0Cover your cute little berries with the oats and sugar and toss the whole thing (carefully) in the oven for about 20 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Be forewarned:<\/strong> After approximately 1o minutes, you will be overcome with the most amazing smell. \u00a0Now is not the time for complicated math problems or heavy lifting. \u00a0Surrender. \u00a0Lay down before your oven Or Sally. - ON TAP FOR TODAY","og_description":"Or Cal. \u00a0Or some other pal. \u00a0Really, these blueberries are for anyone. \u00a0It might be grey and gloomy and wet out (why the heck did I think it was a good idea to run at the beach today? \u00a0Holy Hurricane Bobby!), but it’s Farmers Market Week and when it’s Farmers Market Week, you go to the market. \u00a0Rain or shine. After nearly blowing out to sea, I hightailed it in my Spandex to the South Boston Farmers Market just before closing time (the market runs Mondays in the W Broadway public lot from 12-6). \u00a0Apparently– even though it’s Farmers Market Week– the farmers do not show up rain or shine. \u00a0Only the brave soul from Freitas Farm in Marlborough turned out. \u00a0And he brought his finest blueberries. \u00a0And I left inspired. \u00a0And hungry. Inspired by one of my favorite childhood books, I give you Blueberries for Sal Your Pal. \u00a0Okay, fine. \u00a0It’s blueberry crisp, but how could you not think about snuggling up with a warm dessert and a good book on a day like this? Ingredients: 1 quart of fresh blueberries, washed and carefully inspected (squashed is okay, fuzzy is not… ew) 1\/2 cup of old fashioned oats 1\/4 cup of light brown sugar 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter Feel free to play around with these measurements, obvi. \u00a0Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. \u00a0Toss your blueberries in a bake-safe dish, but be sure to save your blueberry quart packaging (I’ll be back later this week with a recycled quart…). \u00a0Soften your butter and mix with oats and brown sugar. \u00a0Cover your cute little berries with the oats and sugar and toss the whole thing (carefully) in the oven for about 20 minutes. Be forewarned: After approximately 1o minutes, you will be overcome with the most amazing smell. \u00a0Now is not the time for complicated math problems or heavy lifting. \u00a0Surrender. \u00a0Lay down before your oven and enjoy this moment. \u00a0Unless there are other people around. Check your Blueberries for Your Pal after 20 minutes or so. \u00a0If your blueberries have begun to simmer and the crisp is starting to brown, go ahead and grab that baby (with oven mitts on, to be sure). \u00a0If you’re feeling really sassy, you might top your blueberry crisp with vanilla ice cream or Greek yogurt. \u00a0Or you might just want to dig in.
