It’s an overcast Saturday on the Cape and we just saw a bunch of baby chicks (Nicky thought they were “so cute little baby turkeys”…). What more could you ask for? Maybe some popcorn. And some tea. Perhaps a little dark chocolate with sea salt… and a nap… things have taken a turn. Here’s this week on tap. THIS WEEK ON TAP | MAY 12, 2018 MEALS Three Just Add Cooking meals (I modified a bit with ingredients I had on hand to limit gluten/dairy): Greek barley salad (I used quinoa), bean burritos (sans fun tortillas), and gnocchi with kale and walnuts. I was particularly jazzed about the fresh gnocchi… but it just didn’t do it for me. I love the idea of meal kits in theory, but in practice the lack of vegetarian options is a bummer (in this case, the three veg meals for the week are what they are, you don’t have options). Pretending summer is upon us — lots of cucumber, tomato + red onion salads. And heaping bowls of homemade pico de gallo (I’m fascinated by/wary of people who have that cilantro takes like soap thing). WORKOUTS Sunday: Rest Monday: Mama Beasts (and a few miles before class because it’s Mad Mileage May…) Tuesday: 3 miles at Castle Island, yoga Wednesday: Mama Beasts Thursday: 3 miles at Castle Island, yoga Friday: Rest Saturday: 25 minute ride (Nick set up my new spin bike last night!) with the Peloton app LISTENING TO The Perfect Concentration playlist on Spotify (because I could use all the help I can get…) Chris Stapleton — random + v late on this (I learned today that my father saw him in concert, like, a year ago…), but I dig his voice and I can listen to him in the car with the kids without having to beep (like, with my car horn) out swear words (I can’t do this with Nice for What… just can’t keep up + beeping interferes with my car dancing/steering wheel drumming). The usual podcasts (and I’ve promised a few of you a full post on this — soon!), including My Favorite Murder, Keep It, Slow Burn, and Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness. And The Weepies because they are my constant (Semi-related: I was running in the the smoke-monster-esque fog this week and caught myself feeling deep regret for watching LOST in 2013 or whenever that was because that time was fully wasted… except for the scenes of Desmond wearing Hurley’s tie dye… maybe). READING The just-released My Kitchen Chalk Board: Seasonal Menus for Modern New England Families by Leigh Belanger – The team at Union Park Press surprised me with a copy for Mother’s Day and I’ve already spent several hours reading through this thoughtful, inspiring and encouraging cookbook (it’s really more than that, though — there’s so much substance beyond the beautiful recipes). Coincidentally, my friend Molly had just recommended this book (I always trust her endorsements) the day before the package arrived in the mail. When White People Call the Police on Black People in yesterday’s NYT WATCHING Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions… this is my Super Bowl, my World Series, my basketball winner thing, and my Stanley Cup (now that the Bruins are out… but also, even before that #noshame). Not watching yet… but Schitt’s Creek is in my Netflix queue and I’m saving it like a salty snack. I love Eugene Levy (he created the show with his son, Dan Levy) and Catherine O’Hara and their brand of quirk. Are you hooked like all my friends seem to be? CURRENT FAVORITES We’ve spent the last two weekends outside essentially all day at the Cape… and it’s the best. We had a swingset installed just before Easter and it has provided hours and hours of fun (and fortunately, less danger that I feared). I’m looking forward to spending as much time out back as possible this summer– clearly I’ve got summer + the outdoors on the ol’ brain. I’ve been happily adding sea foam/mint accents here and there (to match our kitchen chairs) and would like to bring a little of that out back, along with a big bowl of popcorn. Maybe I’ll turn that mint plant stand into some sort of bar cart situation (for people who have little kids and, like, don’t really drink…) while wearing the perfect tee shirt dress. Anyone else want in? LOOKING FORWARD TO A Mother’s Day walk on the beach with my crew The aforementioned time outside, and planting this year’s container herb garden on the deck. Prints of the kids’ school portraits, especially the ones of them together (we got to the digital files yesterday and they are BEYOND). This post contains affiliate links. Also On Tap for Today: Checking out the baby chicks at our nearby garden/farm center Making this farro salad with tomatoes + herbs Meal planning for the week ahead What’s your favorite cookbook of late?

Hey, hey, heeeeeeeyyyyy. (Let’s pretend that was a sufficient introduction.) This has been quite a week (and a wonderful one, at that). Just ask these two little best friends. THIS WEEK ON TAP | APRIL 28, 2018 MEALS This was an especially wacky week of meals (I believe I had 3 consecutive days of salad for lunch + latkes for dinner…) but hey. It happens. This was also one of the most social weeks I’ve had… maybe ever (or at least since becoming a grown-up), so it’s possible the energy that usually flows towards meal time decisions flowed, instead, toward trying to act normal in public and/or stay awake past 8:30 PM. Two new takeout favorites: The hummus tahina salad from sweetgreen (lunch at WELL Summit) + a vegan Cava bowl (from Tuesday’s Mama Beasts night out) — both were A+ WORKOUTS Monday: Mama Beasts – first class outside with the double stroller since last year… and my children have essentially doubled in size… so that’s neat. Tuesday: Run at the gym Wednesday: Mama Beasts Thursday: Walk at Castle Island Friday: Rest Saturday: TRX + row Sunday: Yoga Reaches Out at Gillette (an uplifting fundraiser in support of the Wellness Program at Children’s Hospital) LISTENING TO My Favorite Murder: I want to be friends with this podcast’s hosts IRL. And I feel like my creep-level interest in true crime works to my advantage in that quest (it’s really not beneficial in any other facet of life… so…) Bruins hockey on the radio… on my iPhone: It’s old-timey and new-timey at the same-timey. Death in Ice Valley from the BBC World Service + NRK on this unsolved mystery: The first two episodes of this podcast have been fascinating. And also makes me want to travel to (but not get murdered in the process, obvi). The Weepies (per usual), Van Morrison (per usual), and Tori Amos (per high school Elizabeth) READING This is very Nerd Alert: French Major Edition… but I’ve started reading at least one news article in French aloud each day (an old habit that fell by the wayside, but was rekindled when I saw Emmanuel Macron and John Lewis hugging). It takes me longer than reading the news in English, but I can practically feel the brain cobwebs loosening. WATCHING The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime Video — It took me an episode-ish to get into it (mostly because it wasn’t what I expected), but then I had to harness what little self-restraint I possess in order to not watch the entire season in one night. Grace write entire words — it’s amazing and thrilling CURRENT FAVORITES I am really digging Kate Spade’s strawberry pattern (as you may have noticed from my recent collaboration with The Paper Store)– it’s so summery and cheerful! I’ve also included a few of my favorite (old + new) clean beauty finds. And a pouf for good measure. LOOKING FORWARD TO A more low-key (and possibly more productive?) week ahead Summer weather… like… 80’s allegedly (we went from January to August) Today’s playdate! This post contains affiliate links. Also On Tap for Today: Tracee Ellis Ross’ TED Talk is well worth watching 13 spring salads to say goodbye to winter from Serious Eats Starting to plan our summer herb garden What are some of your highlights for the week?

My Favorite Murder: I want to be friends with this podcast’s hosts IRL.
This is very Nerd Alert: French Major Edition… but I’ve started reading at least one news article in French aloud each day (an old habit that fell by the wayside, but was rekindled when I saw Emmanuel Macron and John Lewis hugging). It takes me longer than reading the news in English, but I can practically feel the brain cobwebs loosening.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime Video — It took me an episode-ish to get into it (mostly because it wasn’t what I expected), but then I had to harness what little self-restraint I possess in order to not watch the entire season in one night.

You know when a few solid artists team up and form a super group? This is sort of what this post– a combination of my weekly meals + workouts posts and my monthly currently posts– will be (except way less great than say, CSN+Y… obviously). Anyway. Here’s This Week On Tap. THIS WEEK ON TAP | APRIL 14, 2018 MEALS I had 3 complimentary meals from Just Add Cooking delivered this week. I especially loved the Southwestern Chopped Salad (you can find the recipe here). They’ve added a bunch of family-friendly add-ons (including a bunch of healthy snacks) to their offerings, which I am rather jazzed about. Vegan burrito bowls Lentil soup + gf toast Quinoa tabouli (I use this recipe from the Mediterranean Dish, but substitute quinoa for barley) WORKOUTS Monday: Mama Beasts Tuesday: MB home workout + spin Wednesday: Mama Beasts Thursday: 2 miles at Castle Island Friday: Rest Saturday: MB home workout + TRX Sunday: Morning run or rest I have been using the Peloton app on the spin bike at the Y and have been working on putting together a similar set up for our basement gym at the Cape. I’ll share the details once we’ve got it up and running (but in the meantime, you can Google “Peloton hack” for, like, 900 tutorials). As for Mama Beasts, registration is open for the next session (starting the first week in May), including new classes in Brookline on Tuesdays + Thursdays. LISTENING TO Heaven’s Gate: It only took me a couple week’s worth of gym visits to finish this oddly captivating podcast about the Heaven’s Gate, its founders and members. Does this mean I am especially susceptible to being recruited to a cult? I don’t know. But please don’t try me. King’s Last March: A five-part podcast series on Dr. King’s legacy, 50 years after he was shot and killed at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. It covers so much of MLK’s life and is incredibly moving. I visited the Lorraine Motel in the spring of 2013, when I was pregnant with Grace, and I kept coming back to reality that what happened there was so recent… and how much work was and is left undone. Uncivil: Another great podcast, Uncivil shares untold stories of the Civil War and their relevance today’s society. READING Look Alive Out There: Essays by Sloane Crosley This was just released on the 10th anniversary of I Was Told There Would Be Cake (one of my all time favorites), I am already fully on board with this book. Hilarious, moving. I will likely be sad to finish this one (which may not happen, given the speed at which I read these days #toddlers). Health At Every Size: The Surprising Truth About Your Weight by Linda Bacon — This has been on my list for a bit, but I finally remembered to download it to my Kindle today. I’m looking forward to digging into this. All the books on bugs we can get our hands on. Grace’s class just finished a two-week unit on insects, and she noticed we only had one “bug book” on our shelf… so I made it my mission (well, one of my missions) to remedy that. Fewer things bring me more joy than hunting down the perfect book — even better if they are beautifully illustrated. WATCHING Nailed it! on Netflix: It is like a breath of silly, ridiculous, fresh air. (The perfect chaser to hours spent learning about cults, systemic racism + the Civil War… for example.) Watching regular folks fail miserably at cake decorating, but in a surprisingly supportive + safe space, is what we need right now. Playoff hockey I was probably the last person to watch the Queer Eye reboot on Netflix… so I’ll likely rewatch the whole season to make up for my tardiness. SO GOOD. CURRENT FAVORITES I couldn’t resist these Frenchie socks (to the surprise of no one) when I saw them in store… and speaking of Frenchies, baby Clark turned 9 on Wednesday! We are celebrating this weekend with a party (organized by Grace), a pup cup of ice cream from Auntie’s, and a number 9 balloon. I found the W3LL People cream blush while looking for a cleaner option. It can be used as lip stain + eyeshadow, too, but I really love it for a little extra (natural-looking) cheek color. As for all the chambray + navy, well… I want it to be summer by the sea already. LOOKING FORWARD TO Running (outside) weather Visiting one of our favorite farms to see the baby animals today! WELL Summit on Saturday: My friend Elizabeth is coming to town for the event (#doubleelizabethtrouble), and I couldn’t be more excited to spend the day learning with her, and catching up with so many of my favorite ladies. Yoga Reaches Out on April 29th – I am thrilled to be joining the influencer team for this event, which raises money for Children’s Hospital. Having been a Children’s patient myself (as well as a parent to one teeny, tiny newborn patient), I am so grateful for the research they do, and the world class care they provide. I would greatly appreciate your support of this worthy cause: I’d truly appreciate your support for this worthy cause. DISCOUNTS + DEALS To save 15% on tickets to the WELL Summit (Saturday, April 21st in Boston), use code WSELIZABETH at checkout. You can learn more about this event, and what I love about it, here. Use code REFBVTGD8 for $30 off your first order from Just Add Cooking If you’re shopping online (and in some cases, in store) without using ebates (I promise, it’s super easy and free!), you’re leaving money on the table. Let me know if you have questions, or use this link to join. And there you have it, friends. This Week On Tap. Who wants to join my band? This post contains affiliate links. Also On Tap for Today: Last month’s 10 most popular […]

I turn 36 this week… so it’s probably time to start drinking more water, eating more kale, applying more wrinkle cream and sleeping eight hours a night. Or whatever. In case that stuff doesn’t work (or… I forget), I’ve got this week’s meal plan + workouts to fall back on. As I mentioned last week, I’m eliminating high FODMAP foods for the next few weeks, but most of these recipes are, like, perfect for normal people too. All recipes are vegetarian and can easily be adapted to be vegan and/or gluten free. MEAL PLAN + WORKOUTS | WEEK OF 2/26/18 WORKOUTS Monday: Mama Beasts Tuesday: Run and row at the Y Wednesday: Mama Beasts Thursday: TBD (likely run, maybe rest) Friday: Row + foam roll at the Cape Saturday: Basement workout at the Cape Sunday: Rest + foam roll MEAL PLAN Quinoa taboulleh: This is a super easy gluten-free adaptation of taboulleh/tabouli — I like this recipe from Ina Garten, and will use just the green part of the scallion to make it low FODMAP friendly. You can omit the feta to make it vegan. Mason jar salads (for lunches + dinners), using some of the great recipes Molly shared with us at our recent MB event (check out her website for even more great ideas!) with this lemon vinaigrette Tomato, feta + white bean salad (recipe from The Kitchn) Loaded guacamole vegetarian tacos (recipe from Soup Addict): I’ll make a few changes to make this low FODMAP: corn tortillas instead of flour, swap out the black beans for lentils, and begrudgingly omit the onions + garlic, and add some brown rice. Vegetarian tortilla soup (recipe from Karlijn’s Kitchen) My favorite hummus plate (again, with a few changes) + veggies Let the reverse aging cycle (or just, you know, solid self care) begin! Also On Tap for Today: Can You Bring Scalloped Potatoes on a Plane? From Food52 …as if I didn’t already love Chrissy Teigan. #emotionalsupportcasserole I think I need the little sister of my favorite dutch oven (after No Shop February…) for one/two person soups… Is it too early to start planning our Easter menu? What’s on your menu or workout schedule for the week?

Part of me is like, “What can I accomplish food and workout-wise without leaving the house until the temperature exceeds 20°F May?” But a larger part of me is like, “If I don’t leave the house this week, I will drown in Duplos.” Also, the family cannot survive on yogurt pouches alone. And grocery shopping is, like, my second or third favorite past-time (behind Googling Jeopardy! contestants, and talking about cool stuff with my dog). So… here’s my meal plan + workouts for the week. MEAL PLAN + WORKOUTS FOR THE WEEK | 1/8/18 MEAL PLAN Grapefruit + Feta Fregola Salad (recipe from Real Simple): I’m going to use farro instead of fregola (I think fregola is going to be my new favorite substitute swear word) and add some arugula to the mix Gluten free toast with hummus, avocados, tomatoes + greens: So easy, so good. I really like Rudi’s gf sandwich bread, for what that’s worth (not much, I imagine). Vegetarian chili for lazy people (the old standby) “The Best Lentil Dal” (recipe from The Kitchn): Will report back. Roasted sweet potatoes with black beans, onions, garlic, pico de gallo + cilantro Tomato soup + garlic toast Spicy Spaghetti Squash w. Black Beans (Recipe from Whole Foods Market) WORKOUTS I’ve yet to successfully complete a full Tone It Up challenge, but… new year, new me? we shall see. I do plan to incorporate a bunch (technical term) of TIU workouts into my weekly plan since I have all the necessary equipment and a membership to both the nutrition plan + app. I like that all the workouts can easily be done at home (where it’s warm and no one can see my embarrassing French bulldog socks). Similarly, the Mama Beasts winter challenge starts next week (those challenges are definitely my jam)– I’m especially looking forward to the added motivation, structure + accountability of that. If you’re a mother in greater Boston, South Shore or MetroWest area, I highly recommend checking out Mama Beasts. MON: TIU Daily Moves + MB class TUES: TIU Daily Moves + Yoga WED: TIU Daily Moves + MB class THURS: TIU Daily Moves + Kettlebell workout FRI: TIU Daily Moves + this 20 minute rowing workout SATURDAY: Rest SUNDAY: Maybe run outside… maybe turn into a human icicle? I actually have enough embarrassing socks that we could add a sock schedule section next week… maybe. Also On Tap for Today: Budget Your Food Spending in 2018 With These Tried + True Tips from lifehacker New week, new book Kind of getting excited for the Winter Olympics already… What’s your plan for the week ahead?

If you’re short on time, my meal plan for the week can be summed up in two words: mashed potatoes. But hopefully you’ve got a few minutes to stick around, because in addition to some meal + workout ideas, I’ve got a very cool mindfulness challenge from Coolidge Corner Yoga to share with you this week. Back to the mashed potatoes.

Because why start a week on Sunday or Monday… when you can start it on Tuesday? I’m including my workout plan along with this week’s meal plan to make up for my lateness. Or whatever. Temps are supposed to reach 50 degrees in the city today and 70 this weekend. It’s February, mind you (but don’t worry, guys, global warming is totally a sham…). I’ve got the back door open, and a nice, big, summery salad on the table. Is it me, or is it easier to eat well (and like, be a better human in general) when the weather’s nice? Meal plan for the week of 2/20… or 2/21 Breakfasts: Savory overnight oats (here are a few ideas from The Kitchn) – I’m thinking pesto and shaved parmesan with black pepper Cottage cheese + fruit Cheerios or crispy brown rice cereal + milk (because I am nearly 35, going on 4) Lunches: Salads, wraps, leftovers Dinners: Gnocchi with homemade sauce (tomatoes, onions, garlic, basil + spinach) Beans + rice with veggies; quesadillas (corn tortillas) Baked sweet potatoes with black beans + salsa Flatbreads + salad Slow cooker vegan lentil chili from The Kitchn Grilled cheese + tomato soup You can find more meal ideas (and basically see what I am craving at 3 AM while feeding baby Nick…) on this Pinterest board. As for workouts, I decided to try something new last week (or maybe it was the week before?) after my plans had been derailed by a broken washing machine, a carsick toddler, two snowstorms and a visit from the washing machine repair person. I think I may have only made it to Mama Beasts class twice (pssst: new session starts on 2/27, Boston area moms…) in the span of two weeks. It was 2.5 times if you count making it half way there before the aforementioned bout of carsickness… A for effort, C- for basically everything else. The sidewalks were too icy for a run/stroll, and I was feeling both cooped up and cranky, so I knew I needed a backup plan for days and weeks like this. I’d heard great things about Daily Burn (referral link) and decided to sign up for their free 30 day trial after seeing their Instagram ad for the 8 millionth time. I was completely hooked after my first workout. The programming is great (they recommend a program for you, but you can jump around and try various workouts with different trainers) and totally do-able in a small condo with small children crawling, running, and jumping across your mat. I’m following the Cardio Sculpt program which is a great mix of cardio, strength and flexibility/mobility. I went full-on nerd and printed out a blank calendar to schedule in my workouts for the next month or so, and think Daily Burn will be a great compliment to both Mama Beast classes and my running plans (I registered for a few upcoming races and listed them on the Fitness On Tap tab). I’ve also pinned a bunch of free, at home workouts as further backup — feel free to check those out. Workouts for the week of 2/20 Monday: Mama Beasts + Cardio Sculpt Tuesday: Rest Wednesday: Mama Beasts + Kickin’ It (totally channel my inner Billy Blanks for this one) Thursday: BHT Friday: Mama Beasts +/or Cardio Sculpt Saturday: Run 3 miles + Supreme Stretch Sunday: Kickin’ It What feels better than having a plan (and maybe a sheet of gold stickers) at the ready? A 70 degree day in February? Also On Tap for Today: Fascinating: Hunched over a microscope, he sketched the secrets of the brain from The NYT Great resource for packing school lunches: School Lunch Round-up from 100 Days of Real Food On a hunt for the first spring blooms (is it too soon?) What are your favorite at home workouts? Or summery meals appropriate for eating in winter?

You can find more meal ideas (and basically see what I am craving at 3 AM while feeding baby Nick…) on this Pinterest board.

CURRENTLY | JANUARY 2017 I don’t want to jinx it, but I think I’ve finally recovered from President Obama’s Farewell Address… which was Tuesday night (i.e. nearly 48 hours ago). Baby Nick woke up bawling just seconds after the President said “Michelle LaVaughn Robinson, girl of the South Side…” I was bawling at that point too, cradling my sweet child, grateful that both our children were born at a time when such an incredibly smart, respectful, kind and caring family lived in our nation’s White House. I am doing my best during these remaining days of Barack Obama’s presidency to watch every video of the President + kids, the President + dogs, and the President + VP (especially today’s Medal of Freedom presentation) as humanly possible… rather than give into the sadness and anger simmering below the surface (real talk). Also, it was snowing and single digits this weekend… but it’s 55 degrees in Boston today. The world is ending. On that uplifting note… CURRENTLY EATING Variations of the Sprouted Kitchen lentil soup I raved about a couple weeks ago Simple snacks to share with Baby Nick… because these days, he has major food FOMO and needs to sample any/everything on my plate. Blackberries and cottage cheese have been a big hit this week. All the winter citrus, all the winter citrus, all the winter citrus… put your stems up. (Or whatever.) I especially love satsumas, and not just because you can buy them with the leaves and stems still attached. CURRENTLY DRINKING Water (obvi) Not a single Diet Coke today (not so obvi) Fiveway Veggie Broth (definitely unexpected) – I received a complimentary sample right before the holidays and am totally hooked on this incredibly flavorful broth, which you can straight up drink from the bottle. I like warming it up on the stove and drinking from my beloved “BC Grandpa” mug, it’s both delcious and fortifying. Non-vegetarians will likely dig their bone broths. Fiveway products can be found locally in Massachusetts + New Hampshire. CURRENTLY MAKING More gouache chairs Plans for Grace’s “unicorns doing gymnastics” birthday party Finishing my tutorial for the upcoming Get Messy Art Journal season (***stay tuned for a membership giveaway coming soon!) CURRENTLY WEARING Bean boots (the ones without laces, because I’m lazy stylish) + Bean boots socks (so cozy) + a smug smile for having ordered them early enough in the year to beat the inevitable selling out (at last check, there were still sizes 9 + 10 available) My new FitBit (a Christmas present from Nick), the Charge 2 special edition (lavender + rose gold, so pretty) — I really liked the Charge HR, but there are so many design/functional improvements in this version. I especially like the 2 minute guided breathing program. People like me need tiny wrist computers to remind them to breathe. CURRENTLY WATCHING The babes enjoy winter… it’s just the best. Nick, Grace, Baby Nick, Clark and I had so much fun being snowed in down the Cape last weekend. I love watching the kids and Clark explore in the yard. I’m so grateful that we have an escape from the city (and that we have the city to return to, as well). CURRENTLY LOVING Organic Bath Company’s Nourish Night Balm — this stuff is pure magic. The Mama Beasts Winter (Partner) Challenge — I am so glad to be paired up with Julie and be benefitting from some additional fitness/nutrition/mama wellness motivation this time of year. The new TIU workouts (with Jillian Michaels!) and this hilarious Wine Not Wednesday video We’re only two weeks into the year… but things are good. And so are you. Also On Tap for Today: Playing “You have a skunk in your clothes! Get the shovel!” with Grace (I don’t really know how to play, I just follow her lead and yell those two sentences over and over) Busting some behind closed doors clutter with Apartment Therapy Looking for a new book to read What’ve you been up to this month?

This hand painted calendar is coming to you live and direct on October 3rd. So I suppose my number one goal for the month should be… punctuality? PRINTABLE OCTOBER CALENDAR Materials used: Two leaves, 8 x 10 Gelli Plate (for mono-printing — such a fun tool to have on hand!), brayer, various acrylic paints (Golden liquid + high flow acrylics, Dick Blick matte acrylics, Martha Stewart craft paint), cold press watercolor paper, Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor paint, #2 round brush (for the October hand lettering), calendar text added digitally (because it took 9 months for me to accept I can’t paint in a straight line, apparently) You can download your free, printable October calendar here. I went in a bit of a different direction with this month’s calendar. My distaste for fall colors is well documented here (plus there was the time I almost committed a crime against our wedding caterer when she suggested decorating our wedding reception with fake pumpkins and leaves…). But I do love a good fallen leaf. Whatever that means. Grace and I collected a few on our way home from this morning’s workout and used them in today’s art project (I haven’t been doing much painting on my own these days, but we’ve been killing the mom/toddler art scene. Again… whatever that means.). Using my Gelli Plate to pull prints of these leaves was a lot of fun, and the result was just fall-ish enough to be October appropriate… without being a fake pumpkin. Regardless, we’ve got so much to look forward to this month — Nick’s birthday, my sister’s birthday, baby Nick’s baptism, dressing up Clark (and the children, obvi) for Halloween, football football snacks, and a really exciting thing I’ll tell you about later, because I seem to have become superstitious. And vague. OCTOBER GOALS Keeping it basic. Like a PSL. My primary wellness goal is, once again, consistency– consistent workouts, consistent hydration, consistent nutrition. (I’d say consistent sleep… but… #babiesdontsleep). The Mama Beasts fall challenge is underway, which gives me some much needed structure and motivation. Make 1 new-to-me recipe each week. You know, in an effort to stop making the same three things over and over. Be more intentional about our weekends. It’s often the only solid family time we have during the week. I’d prefer we not spend it buried under laundry and/or rushing around. And on that note: laundry awaits. The glamor of my life continues to abound. October goals + a printable calendar from @elizabethevClick To Tweet Also On Tap for Today: The best way to store apples so they last all month long from The Kitchn Watching Baby Nick master clapping (it’s the best) Love this: What your favorite flower says about you from Apartment Therapy What are you most looking forward to this October?

This hand painted calendar is coming to you live and direct on October 3rd. So I suppose my number one goal for the month should be… punctuality?

PRINTABLE OCTOBER CALENDAR

Materials used: Two leaves, 8 x 10 Gelli Plate (for mono-printing — such a fun tool to have on hand!), brayer, various acrylic paints (Golden liquid + high flow acrylics, Dick Blick matte acrylics, Martha Stewart craft paint), cold press watercolor paper, Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor paint, #2 round brush (for the October hand lettering), calendar text added digitally (because it took 9 months for me to accept I can’t paint in a straight line, apparently)

You can download your free, printable October calendar here.

Regardless, we’ve got so much to look forward to this month — Nick’s birthday, my sister’s birthday, baby Nick’s baptism, dressing up Clark (and the children, obvi) for Halloween, <del>football</del> football snacks, and a really exciting thing I’ll tell you about later, because I seem to have become superstitious. And vague.

OCTOBER GOALS

Keeping it basic.
