Today: A new and improved City Sports.
I saw something somewhere (vague, I know… I’ve been especially flaky lately) about every moment being Monday morning – that is, a chance to start fresh. I like the idea that we are new and improved with every decision that we make. And there you have it, your pep talk for the day.
I had the pleasure of joining City Sports for their 30th anniversary and new location opening (DJ’d by none other than Sheldon Gentles, arguably the star of our wedding reception) in Chestnut Hill this weekend. Those of you who have shopped at their previous Chestnut Hill location will love their new set up.
While I always had great luck at their old location (great running and soccer gear, in particular, and fantastic customer service), the high ceilings, airy layout and gorgeous displays at the new location (part of “The Street” development on Route 9) is a huge improvement.
A few highlights from the new and improved City Sports in Chestnut Hill:
- Over 9,200 square feet, featuring new and expanded departments for women’s apparel, footwear, youth and team sports
- Uniform height displays, allowing the shopper to navigate the store more easily
- The women’s department includes dedicated space for extended sizes
- An updated women’s pant wall and one of the most comprehensive sports bra collections available anywhere in retail
- An upgraded footwear department (OMG, shoes!) with an in-store track and treadmill to test out more than 300 styles
- An expertly staffed racquet sports department with full-time racquet stringing and demo services
I was thrilled to see the selection of women’s apparel in extended sizes. Why shouldn’t women of all sizes be able to find high performing and well fitting athletic apparel – apparel that looks and feels good? Brands available in extended sizes include CS by City Sports, Moving Comfort and soon Nike. I also loved the indoor track, which just plain looks cool, but also makes great sense for those wanting to test out their new kicks before buying.
New and improved looks good, don’t you think?

Where do you shop for kicks and athletic gear?

I shop all over for my athletic gear. I’ve bought running shoes at City Sports in Harvard Square and the past two times at the Marathon Sports in Cambridge. As for gear, the last time I shopped I bought sports bras at Target and pants/shorts/capris at TJ Maxx. I probably need to replace/upgrade some gear soon, but I slowly add new items to my workout wardrobe.
