Today: WOD bless America.
[tweetmeme source=”elizabethev” only_single=false]Happy Birthday, America!
Before celebrating our freedom to grill, swim, eat corn on the cob and play Phase 10, Nick and I hit up Crossfit Southie for the Lumberjack 20.
From Crossfit Southie’s website:
On Nov. 5 at 1:34 p.m., a terrorist named Major Nidal Hasan attacked fellow soldiers and civilians at Fort Hood, Texas. When the shooting ended, he had killed 12 soldiers and one civilian and wounded 43 others. Spc. Frederick Greene, 29, of Mountain City, Tennessee, Pfc. Aaron Thomas Nemelka, 19, of West Jordan, Utah, Pfc. Michael Pearson, 22, of Bolingbrook, Illinois, and Spc. Kham Xiong, 23, of St. Paul, Minnesota, along with eleven of the wounded were active CrossFitters in the 20th Engineer Battalion, home to Lumberjack CrossFit.
The Lumberjack 20:
I am as new as new can be to CrossFit, and still have so much to learn, but I really like the concept of hero workouts, which honor America’s armed forces. How appropriate for the 4th of July. My partner for today’s workout (we shared equipment and staggered our starts, so that one of us was running what the other was performing box jumps, pull ups, etc.) is also new to CrossFit, which really put me at ease. I kept telling myself that I was a runner, and to treat each 400m as a recharge before the next movement. It sort of worked. Mostly. We scaled back on the weights and were able to finish in 29:04.
My red, white and blue Sparkly Soul headband arrived just in time for America’s birthday. I may have felt like death when I finished the WOD, but um… at least I was well accessorized.
The cooler’s packed, the watermelon beers are chilling and Clark has his life vest at the ready. It’s time to celebrate. Happy 4th, friends.
Also On Tap for Today:
- Thank you to all of our troops, veterans and their families
- Celebrating in Boston? Find fireworks info here 🙂
- Feelin’ like a mixed berry fool

Watermelon beers? Yum! I’ve never heard of such a thing.
Favorite workout accessory is definitely a sparkly headband. Since I’ve been running in the 100+ temps lately, they are perfect for keeping my hair from sticking to my face. Plus they’re super cute 🙂

Ooo nice WOD! That looks like a fun one! Of course the “fun” ones are usually the hardest ones haha! Hmm I need to get myself a sparly headband!

I’m still so impressed with anyone who does CrossFit. I keep hearing about it, but it sounds WAY out of my league. I’d probably pass out after 2 of the activities!
For the 400m, do you go on a treadmill or track or something?
Does Clark actually have a lifevest? It sounds cute 🙂 And extra safe 😀
I don’t have any workout accessories. I’ve been thinking about getting some Sparkly Soul headbands. I’m always entering any giveaways people host for them, maybe I should just go ahead and buy some 🙂

I recently came across your site and just wanted to say hello- I thought it was cool you live in Boston ( I moved here almost a year ago ) but I also like the site, very entertaining!
Did you happen to watch the fireworks this year? After all the evacuations and delays we found a great spot to watch. It started raining big fat raindrops for about 5 minutes but everyone was having a blast!
