Today: What goes up, must come… off?

Running has its ups and its downs (and then there are the hills).  After months of slacking, I’ve had a few really good runs lately in preparation for upcoming races (three over the course of the next three weeks!).  I banged out 3 miles on the treadmill on Wednesday with no slowing down (there was, in fact, a bit of speeding up) and on Friday, my sister and I finished 6.5 miles along the Charles.

For my fellow Lost-obsessed runners.

Ups

  • Few things feel better than finishing a good run.  You feel proud, accomplished, strong, and exhausted.
  • Running with someone else gives you the time to catch up, to chat, and to support one another.  Or in my case, I listened to my speedy sister chat (and tried to grunt a word here and there) and she supported me with walk breaks when I needed them.   Inevitably, I’d be bored without her, so I’d sprint to catch up.  In that way, she supported me with a little unplanned interval training.

Downs

  • I realized, rather belatedly, that I had forgotten to actually register for one of the longer races we are training for… whoops.  Because the 7.5 mile race is full, I am now registered for the 5k course hahaha.  I would have liked to have an official time to compare to last year’s race, but I am not going to lie: 3.1 miles is fine by me. 🙂  For someone who is usually hyper-organized, every now and then I completely flake out.
  • I… um… am about to lose a toenail.  And no, this would not be the first time.  Runners World would call this a badge of honor.  I call it revolting.  And yet, I am fully preoccupied with the process and can’t seem to stop talking about it.

Also On Tap for Today:

Are their ups/downs to your favorite pastimes?

Living alone + being under the weather = overly chatty sister. Hope the headache I gave you finally went away!
