Thirst: Recommended Reading + a Giveaway

One of the most impactful experiences I had at WELL Summit in Brooklyn earlier this month was listening to Scott Harrison share his story and founding of charity: water.  I was moved to tears on multiple occasions during his one hour keynote– and, ultimately, moved to pitch in.

Water has the power to change everything– yet having access to clean, safe water is something I habitually take for granted.  During his WELL Summit keynote, Scott Harrison shared his unlikely journey from nightclub promoter to founding charity: water and ultimately changing the lives of millions. It’s incredible to think that clean, safe water can do just that — it can change the world.

I was tremendously impressed with charity: water’s business model — 100% of public donations fund clean water projects, while private donors cover operating costs (and even credit card fees incurred on public donations).

They have taken transparency to the next level.  As a former non-profit executive, I know just how important that is both for funders and the overall spirit of the work.   Individual donations are linked to specific projects, which can be tracked and followed for the duration of each project.

You can learn about all of charity: water’s completed projects here.
