This Week On Tap | June 11

So this edition of This Week On Tap is brought to you by a semi-broken MacBook, a semi-broken iPhone, a dangling rear view mirror, regular person Advil for my wonky back, Children’s Motrin for Nicky’s (now gone) fever, and a prescription for compounded “miracle mouthwash.”  Miracles = interested.

this week on tap

I don’t really know much (that could be the end of the sentence, and frankly the end of this post, if I’m being honest…) about the universe and planets and orbits, but maybe Mercury accidentally went retrograde again?  We’re having a wacky few weeks.  Things keep breaking (and then I “fix” them and they get more broken), my best laid plans keep getting disrupted, and every time I try to be normal and greet a stranger, I say “good morning” instead of “good afternoon” and vice versa.

The kids and I are were trapped inside last weekend and for the start of the week (I smugly thought Nicky had been spared from the Hand Foot + Mouth Disease that plagued his entire class two weeks ago… alas, no).  When he was finally feeling better and we were desperate for fresh air, it started raining… so my middle-of-the-night plans to use some sort of new fangled delivery app to have two scooters and helmets delivered so the little people could scoot up and down the driveway were foiled.  Also I threw out my back (which is a weird expression, but you get it).

Fortunately, everyone’s feeling great, the sun is shining, and I downloaded an app to teach me about astrology.

WORKOUTS

  • Sunday: Corrib 5k home with the babes
  • Monday: Rest/Anxiously pace around the condo
  • Tuesday: 4 mi run at Castle Island
  • Wednesday:  Mama Beasts
  • Thursday:  2 mi at Castle Island
  • Friday: 45 minute basement spin (Peloton app)
  • Saturday: 30 minute basement spin (Peloton app)
  • Sunday: Yoga with Sara Divello + WELL Summit tribe (it was heaven)
  • Monday: Mama Beasts

I treated myself to a new pair of spin shoes (and NBD, but I installed the SPD clips + new pedals like a real grown up) and definitely noticed a difference during this weekend’s rides.  I’ve been using my basement spin bike pretty consistently over the weekends and look forward to relying on it for workouts over the summer while we’re at the Cape (though I’ll miss Mama Beasts, like, a lot).  I’ll write up the full rundown on my bike/shoes/set-up shortly.  (Keeping ya on the edge of your seats, I know…)

MEALS

READING

WATCHING

  • I tried to save Schitt’s Creek until summer, but got very involved, very quickly.  It’s so good.  The first three seasons are available on Netflix, and the fourth is on Amazon Prime.
  • PBS Masterpiece’s Little Women — also very good.  I found this version to be especially moving (read: I cried multiple times)

LISTENING TO

  • The usual podcasts: Death in Ice Valley, Keep It, Pod Save America, Lovett or Leave It, Fake the Nation, Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday, On Being + My Favorite Murder
  • And a few new or new-to-me ones: The Side Hustle Show, Wabi Sabi with Candice Kumai, + Haunted Places
  • Weezer’s cover of Africa (resulting in an extended trip down a Rivers Cuomo wikipedia rabbit hole)

WORKING ON

  • Deck/container garden plans — we planted our herbs (and tomatoes from my dad) this weekend.  If you’re looking for plans, I really like this one for a kitchen garden from Gardener’s Supply (they have a bunch of free plans).
  • Getting organized for the end of the school year/summer on the Cape

CURRENT FAVORITES

I basically convinced myself (…late night YouTubing) that I can install a wooden beaded chandelier on my own.  I think the spin bike pedals gave me false confidence.  Regardless, we have three very different lights in our kitchen/dining area at the Cape.  I think one can be spray painted, but I’d love to replace the aggressive faux Tiffany glass fixture with something more beachy.  And I promise I won’t do it myself.
Also, ’tis the season for tee shirt dresses and I’m not mad.  Unfortunately, ’tis also the season for mosquitos and I’m kind of mad… but I’m planning to combat them with these citronella + sea salt candles (they also make eucalyptus and grapefruit varieties).
Sayonara, suckers.  Not you.  The mosquitos.
