This Week On Tap | April 14

You know when a few solid artists team up and form a super group?  This is sort of what this post– a combination of my weekly meals + workouts posts and my monthly currently posts– will be (except way less great than say, CSN+Y… obviously).  Anyway.  Here’s This Week On Tap.

THIS WEEK ON TAP | APRIL 14, 2018

this week on tap

MEALS

  • I had 3 complimentary meals from Just Add Cooking delivered this week. I especially loved the Southwestern Chopped Salad (you can find the recipe here).  They’ve added a bunch of family-friendly add-ons (including a bunch of healthy snacks) to their offerings, which I am rather jazzed about.
  • Vegan burrito bowls
  • Lentil soup + gf toast
  • Quinoa tabouli (I use this recipe from the Mediterranean Dish, but substitute quinoa for barley)

WORKOUTS

  • Monday: Mama Beasts
  • Tuesday: MB home workout + spin
  • Wednesday: Mama Beasts
  • Thursday: 2 miles at Castle Island
  • Friday: Rest
  • Saturday: MB home workout + TRX
  • Sunday: Morning run or rest

I have been using the Peloton app on the spin bike at the Y and have been working on putting together a similar set up for our basement gym at the Cape.  I’ll share the details once we’ve got it up and running (but in the meantime, you can Google “Peloton hack” for, like, 900 tutorials).  As for Mama Beasts, registration is open for the next session (starting the first week in May), including new classes in Brookline on Tuesdays + Thursdays.

LISTENING TO

  • Heaven’s Gate: It only took me a couple week’s worth of gym visits to finish this oddly captivating podcast about the Heaven’s Gate, its founders and members.  Does this mean I am especially susceptible to being recruited to a cult?  I don’t know.  But please don’t try me.
  • King’s Last March: A five-part podcast series on Dr. King’s legacy, 50 years after he was shot and killed at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis.  It covers so much of MLK’s life and is incredibly moving.  I visited the Lorraine Motel in the spring of 2013, when I was pregnant with Grace, and I kept coming back to reality that what happened there was so recent… and how much work was and is left undone.
  • Uncivil: Another great podcast, Uncivil shares untold stories of the Civil War and their relevance today’s society.

READING

  • Look Alive Out There: Essays by Sloane Crosley  This was just released on the 10th anniversary of I Was Told There Would Be Cake (one of my all time favorites), I am already fully on board with this book.  Hilarious, moving.  I will likely be sad to finish this one (which may not happen, given the speed at which I read these days #toddlers).
  • Health At Every Size: The Surprising Truth About Your Weight by Linda Bacon — This has been on my list for a bit, but I finally remembered to download it to my Kindle today.  I’m looking forward to digging into this.
  • All the books on bugs we can get our hands on.  Grace’s class just finished a two-week unit on insects, and she noticed we only had one “bug book” on our shelf… so I made it my mission (well, one of my missions) to remedy that.  Fewer things bring me more joy than hunting down the perfect book — even better if they are beautifully illustrated.

WATCHING

  • Nailed it! on Netflix:  It is like a breath of silly, ridiculous, fresh air.  (The perfect chaser to hours spent learning about cults, systemic racism + the Civil War… for example.)  Watching regular folks fail miserably at cake decorating, but in a surprisingly supportive + safe space, is what we need right now.
  • Playoff hockey
  • I was probably the last person to watch the Queer Eye reboot on Netflix… so I’ll likely rewatch the whole season to make up for my tardiness.  SO GOOD.

CURRENT FAVORITES

  • I couldn’t resist these Frenchie socks (to the surprise of no one) when I saw them in store… and speaking of Frenchies, baby Clark turned 9 on Wednesday!  We are celebrating this weekend with a party (organized by Grace), a pup cup of ice cream from Auntie’s, and a number 9 balloon.
  • I found the W3LL People cream blush while looking for a cleaner option.  It can be used as lip stain + eyeshadow, too, but I really love it for a little extra (natural-looking) cheek color.
  • As for all the chambray + navy, well… I want it to be summer by the sea already.

LOOKING FORWARD TO

  • Running (outside) weather
  • Visiting one of our favorite farms to see the baby animals today!
  • WELL Summit on Saturday: My friend Elizabeth is coming to town for the event (#doubleelizabethtrouble), and I couldn’t be more excited to spend the day learning with her, and catching up with so many of my favorite ladies.
  • Yoga Reaches Out on April 29th – I am thrilled to be joining the influencer team for this event, which raises money for Children’s Hospital.  Having been a Children’s patient myself (as well as a parent to one teeny, tiny newborn patient), I am so grateful for the research they do, and the world class care they provide. I would greatly appreciate your support of this worthy cause: I’d truly appreciate your support for this worthy cause.

Oh! i keep hearing about Heaven’s Gate when listening to other podcasts and forgetting to download when i’m back at my computer. Downloading it now!!! [yes, i still subscribe via iTunes and update an iPod 2-3 times a week; i have tried newer technology, but I can’t quit this habit i’ve been in for LEGIT 10 years. #feelingOLD]

I am also v. excited for the new Sloane Crosby…but not as stoked as I am for the new Meg Wolitzer; I fell hard for her when we read The Interestings for HLB Bookclub years ago and have been working my way through her past novels. Having a new one out during my birthmonth feels like an extra special gift from the universe. And, you know, the author herself because obviously she cares about my birthday, too.

      *Crosley.
Realized I did that the moment I couldn’t edit it, of course.
