Today I’m bidding adieu to my early thirties. Is 36 considered mid-thirties, or late thirties? Is mid-thirties a concept invented for people in denial? Regardless, today’s my 36th birthday and I’m greeting it (and my late thirties) with joy + gratitude + excitement.
We’re supposed to get older. We’re lucky to get older.
1982 me, sporting less hair + a crop top + hot shorts
My late twenties + early thirties (for the most part) were marked by lots of big, grown-up, important things . I met Nick, switched jobs, started this blog, ran two marathons, got married, became a mother, cultivated a successful career, made the transition to being home with our two children, and even kept several plants alive along the way.
With each year, I’ve more myself. And I’m kind of proud of that person. And I’m looking forward to spending a good chunk of the next few years taking really good care of that person. So I can live to wear a crop top and hot shorts again in, like, 2052.
