Status Update
Status update: It’s the third day of spring, a Tuesday. I’ve recently turned 40, but I’m still kind of 38 in pandemic years. I’m wearing cool mom shoes. I read three entire books this weekend, largely because we had our first hockey-free 48 hours since… September? Today, Birdie and I are following the sun from room to room — we start at the back of the house and work our way from the sunroom to the kitchen to the playroom/office.
As the season shifts and my winter personality thaws into something slightly more personable, I can’t help but think about how much has changed in the last few years. And how much is the same. This time two years ago, the kids and I were starting our tiny pandemic garden, thinking it would maybe be a fun diversion from two weeks quarantining at home (I just about to write lol, but I’m sure you’d know it was less laughing and more of a full body cringe– this article about why we use lol so much, and the evolution of language is worth a read). This year, I am about to go full on heating mats, grow lights, and trays upon trays of seedlings. I have big plans for this summer’s end-of-the-driveway-free-tomato-stand–I keep telling myself it’s important to make plans. Even though we are currently in what feels like an okay spot, covid-wise, we are not out of the woods– and there are plenty of other things to be worried about, too. So for the moment, I’m sitting in the sunniest patch in the house, with a giant Golden Retriever (who thinks he’s still tiny) sitting on my feet, day dreaming about all the herbs and flowers and painted rocks I’ll give away in a few months. And it feels good. Even for a minute or two.
I hope you’re having a minute or two, too.
