Winter at Wilson Farm in Lexington
One of my favorite things to do spring through fall is visit our local farms with the kids, stock up on produce and check in on the animals. But after a recent visit to Wilson Farm in Lexington, I was reminded that winter on the farm is just as lively as the warmer seasons.
I stopped in a few days before Valentine’s Day and the farm was fully stocked with roses, tulips, specialty food items (including My Heart “Beets” for You Ravioli made with beet pasta, which I brought home to share with Nick), and the most tempting pastries and bakery items.
My dear friend (and fellow farm/plants/pretty things enthusiast) Amanda + I were treated to a tour of Wilson Farm’s facilities, including the greenhouses, bakery, florist and kitchen. Between their Lexington, MA + Litchfield, NH locations, Wilson Farm employs over 350 people. I was so impressed with the whole operation — but moreover, with how kind and warm everyone was. Even the goats sauntered over to greet us!
Though I could have spent all morning wandering around the farm stand, the greenhouses were my favorite stop on our tour. I’ve been trying to limit my plant accumulation (and like, accumulation in general)– but whew.
Wilson Farm is plant person heaven. They had some beautiful tropicals and succulents in the shop (with a few of my wish list plants– including some amazing elephant ears!), along with herbs and beautiful primroses grown on site. We got to see their nurseries, where hydrangeas were getting their start — making me long a bit for summer.
I’m a firm believer in the power of plants — especially in the dead of New England winter. Being surrounded by them, and getting the chance to spend the morning with the lovely people that care for them + the rest of the farm, was really uplifting.

The marketing team generously sent us home with all kind of farm treats after our tour. We used our Wilson Farm pancake mix, along with fresh raspberries from the farm, for a special Valentine’s Day breakfast last week with the kids– it did not disappoint. It’s clear everything that leaves Wilson Farm is made + grown with care.
