DIY Facial Serum for Glowing Skin

I was never great at group projects in school, because… like, I’d rather just do it myself.  I’ve noticed that approach has reemerged in my life, perhaps as a coping mechanism for these dark times (coping with crafts, my friends!).

There’s something really satisfying about creating wonderful things for ourselves and other people.  This DIY facial serum for glowing skin is one of my favorite creations — I tinkered with it over the summer and landed on a super easy recipe to share.

DIY Facial Serum for Glowing Skin

You’ll need:

  • 2 oz glass bottle (cobalt blue or amber glass to limit light exposure)
  • Mini funnel
  • Organic jojoba oil
  • Organic rosehip seed oil
  • Pure vitamin e oil
  • Organic essential oils: Frankincense, Lavender, Geranium
  • Super optional: Old timey label maker for a cute tag…

Directions:

  1. Fill your bottle about 2/3 with jojoba oil, using the mini funnel to minimize mess
  2. Add 10-15 drops of rosehip seed oil
  3. Add 10-15 drops of vitamin e oil
  4. Add 30 drops of frankincense essential oil
  5. Add 5 drops of lavender essential oil
  6. Add 10 drops of geranium essential oil
  7. Add cap and gently tip back and forth to combine ingredients
  8. Store in a cool, dark spot

Feel free to customize this blend based on your own skin type and needs– I’ve found this recipe to work really well with my sensitive (occasionally red/blotchy/dry and… shall we say, maturing) skin.  I use 5-10 drops each morning and evening after cleansing.  I sometimes add a few drops of vitamin c serum to the mix, but otherwise this has been my tried + true for months.

It’s worth investing in the best quality ingredients you can, both because you’re worth it… and because your skin warrants that level of care.  You’ll find most of these items at Whole Foods Market or your local organic/natural food store (I prefer to buy in store, as opposed to online when it comes to these things… but that’s just me).  I use each of these items in other DIY beauty products, or in my essential oil diffuser.  As with all things (right?), it pays to do your research.

This serum makes a lovely gift (I’ve handed out several bottles to some of my favorite ladies)– but I recommend treating yourself first. P.S. URAQT. 😉

Also On Tap for Today:

  • Working on some mid-week meal prep
  • Great reasons to remove your shoes indoors from A Beautiful Mess
  • Decorating the Cape house for Halloween (the babes asked for something “extra spooky” and landed on a “little Halloween baby” which is actually some sort of terrifying, flying demon/skeleton hybrid… so that is very special)

Are you a DIY-er? What is your favorite recent project?
