An art peek
I haven’t posted a peek at my art or sketchbook lately… so… here we are. Still making little things, with a little time and a little glitter (but mostly paint).
AN ART PEEK
This piece was inspired by a Christopher Paolini quote included with one of the Get Messy Art Journal prompts (they’re sent out weekly to members to inspire artmaking and connections with the community). I submitted it on a whim to Brush Magazine and was thrilled that it was accepted and published in Issue 3: Nature.
This is what happens when I’m on hold with the doctor’s office + have access to watercolors. Phone in one hand, paint brush in the other. There’s no need to get complicated– five minutes of painting is always five minutes well spent.
More of the same. But with shimmer! I love using paint mixed with mica or pearl (this palette is similar to the one I have) for its ethereal, airy quality.
And lastly, a new (for me) type of handmade book: the dos-à-dos (French for back-to-back… see, being a French major is v. relevant), which is basically two sketchbooks sewn together, so that the book opens from the back and the front. I followed a tutorial from Get Messy’s guest artist for this season, Kiala Givehand. The theme for this season is kindness, hence the hand cut letters on the cover.
I’ll share another art peek soon-ish!
