Today: What’s your fun fact?

[tweetmeme source=”elizabethev” only_single=false]Everyone should have a fun fact or two at the ready.  You never know when an elevator might break down or something, forcing you to make pleasant conversation with strangers.  This time of year, politics would be a natural go-to, but um… you don’t want to be trapped in tight quarters with someone who feels differently than you about the so-called “47%.”

A few of my favorite (non-polarizing) fun facts:

  • Barbie’s real name is Barbara Millicent Rogers.
  • The streets running perpendicular to the river in the Back Bay are in alphabetical order: Arlington, Berkeley, Clarendon, Dartmouth, Exeter, Fairfield, Gloucester.
  • A humming bird weighs less than a penny.
  • Have an extra wedding invitation?  Send it to the President and First Lady.  They usually write back.

Clark weighs more than a penny.  He is adored by Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike, though.  I think.  A few Clark-specific fun facts on this lovely Thursday:

  • Clark has a tattoo.  What can I say?  He is one BAMF was bred to be a show dog and didn’t wear a collar or leash before we scooped him up.  He just pranced around freely.  His first name was Napoleon, so he has a little N on his hip.  Or whatever you call the inside of a dog’s hind leg.
  • His middle name is Manuel.
  • Clark loves to howl at sirens.  Want to see him in action?

  • A pet psychic told us that he loves Christmas (who doesn’t?) and Taylor Swift.  I used to leave the T. Swift Pandora station on for him while I was at work.  And then I came to my senses.
  • He doesn’t have a tail (it was docked before we got him, see also “Clark has a tattoo”).  This is very confusing to the kids he visits for pet therapy.  I never have a good answer.  So I talk about his middle name.

Alright, let’s hear it.  What’s your fun fact?

We have a Frenchie too. His name is Leopold. We call him Leo. He is also a Tiger Brindle (looks a lot like Clark). His Momma’s name was Bianca Biker Babe. I like to imagine a tiger brindle in chaps. He has no tail at all – French Bull Dogs are born with either little nubbins or no tails. My fun fact: French Bulldogs can’t swim. Well… they aren’t supposed to be able to swim. Leo does. He swims FAST! I thnk it’s because he wants OUT.

Haha! Clark is also a speedy swimmer, but makes a beeline for the shore/pool deck asap.

I hope the president is able to make your wedding! I wonder if they let the girls draw glasses on your save the date, which is obviously hanging on their fridge!

Moose, my parents Jack Russell Terror, does not like the voice that announces an incoming call on the landline. He howls like crazy when the phone rings. He’ll bark when people walk by the house, but this is the only thing he’ll howl at.

Ahem, where is the story that starts kind of like this… So, this one time I took my pet to a psychic… ?!

    I like pet-related fun facts.
    1. We adopted a purebred Balinese cat from a friend who couldn’t keep him anymore. He is probably the fanciest thing we OWN. We named him Steve (I wanted him to be Stevejobs but the bf didn’t want to come off thaaat apple obsessed. whatever.). So he is sometimes called Steve Jobs, Steven Tyler, Steve Buscemi, Stevie the TV, or when he’s looking particularly pretty and howling about food, he is called Gloria Esteban.

    2. Our other cat is incredibly scruffy and scraggly and spends a good amount of time outdoors. We’ve been witness to him hunting down up to 4 animals in ONE day (when I say animals, I mean rodents). To keep up with his shenanigans, Mamadou Fofana (his full name) has a GPS tracking collar (TAGG the pet tracker…for dogs…it’s cool). There’s an app for that. Really. We whip our iPhone out at parties and show people how we can locate our cat around the neighborhood and creep our neighbors out when we knock on their door at night and say, ‘can we poke around your backyard? Our cat’s collar is there. We know because we tracked it here on our phone.’

Anyways, loved all of the little Clark tidbits. I show off his photo to the bf when I try to convince him Frenchies are the way to go. 🙂

I love everything about this comment. Stevie the TV is just awesome. And yes, one day I shall share the full pet psychic experience. For now, this: she was wearing gold glitter pants. And claimed Clark wants to see “the old man” again.

I have a feeling a GPS collar is in our future. When we move to the ‘burbs.

I never graduated High School….yet I have 2 undergrad degrees, my masters and am ordained. The State of Pennsylvania doesn’t grant HS diplomas to home schooled kids who home school for under 2 years. I only did it for 1.5. Oh well.

I don’t have any pet facts (I don’t have any pets). But I’ve also heard about sending invites to the president. I’d love to see “Best Wishes, Love Barack and Michelle” 🙂 I wonder if they’ve ever attended a wedding from one of those invites!

I’m also uncomfortable when people start talking politics. Even if I’m sometimes guilty of it 😛

I have a fun science fact: Diamond has a way higher thermal conductivity than metals. So if you have a disk of diamond (made in a lab) and hold it in you hand, it can cut through ice really fast (using the heat from your hand), and your hand gets cold really fast. cue video: http://youtu.be/lQ0N_1xQN2Y

I so missed the boat and didn’t send a wedding invite to the White House. And where’s that pet psychic? I’d love to get into my cat’s head.
Fun facts about me: I have a degree in Poli Sci and hate talking about politics. It makes me ridiculously uncomfortable. Also, one of my dreams is to be one of the people picked to go decorate the White House at Christmas. Bucket list.
Fun fact about my cat: I think he’s half dog. He begs for food, greets me at the door, and is trainable. I also bought him a dog’s small gnome Halloween costume this weekend that was too small for him. So he’s like… a beagle or something.
