Today: When the cat’s away…

[tweetmeme source=”elizabethev” only_single=false]…the mice fiancee and Frenchie will play.  Muhahaha.

I didn’t know much about (non-hamster) pets before we brought Clark home.  I thought, for example, that dogs needed to be bathed every night.  Turns out, you can wait until they smell like Fritos.  That’s Clark’s warning for “I’m 2-3 days away from smelling like an expired roast beef sandwich.”  Or whatever.

In the last two and a half years, thanks to lots and lots of training at the Pawsitive Dog, I’ve learned all kinds of things about animals.  I especially like when Jen talks about pack order.  It’s both weird and fascinating.

When Nick was in Portugal a couple of years ago, I let Clark sleep on the bed (whoops).  He repaid my kindness by peeing on my down comforter.  So rude.  Apparently he was trying to pick off “the weaker member of the pack.”  That would be me.  I wouldn’t survive five minutes in the Animal Kingdom.  Or on Survivor.

Thought it’s mostly annoying, not being perceived as the boss by your dog has its advantages.  When Nick is away, Clark and I can get into all kinds of mischief.  Three words: treats for dinner.  Five more words: Weirdo glasses and photo booth.  That’s how we roll.

I may not be the boss, but I am definitely the Vice President of Fun.

Also On Tap for Today:

Are you on your best behavior when the boss is away?

When my boyfriend is away on travel, I’m either on top of things (making dinner plus leftovers, going to the gym, going to bed at a reasonable hour) or I fail (eat cereal and/or ice cream for dinner, come home and plop in front of the TV, stay up all night). I definitely prefer being on top of things. I think the key for me is planning ahead.

this post made me laugh outloud. we just got a frenchie puppy about two weeks ago, and i’m absolutely in love. however, i do think he would pee on my comforter if i ever let him on the bed..so i’ll try not to let that happen. key word being try. 🙂 love your blog!
