Today: Discover Hall’s Pond Sanctuary

sanctuary

Whilst taking a stroll in our beloved Brookline this morning, my roommate Bad Elizabeth and I happened upon Hall’s Pond Sanctuary. We were working on our fitness (read: no pockets), so I didn’t have my digi-cam, but it certainly warrants a return trip (photos forthcoming).

Following the path behind the tennis courts, a sweet wrought iron gate caught my eye. It was wide open, so we figure it wasn’t off limits and decided to explore further. Why not?

We entered just in time for a terrifying woman walking her poodleeooh to bark– the woman, not her dog–in our general direction, “Close the gate!” And so we disappeared into the woods, taking sanctuary from our not so neighborly neighbor, closing the gate behind us.

With well manicured paths and a winding board walk, the sanctuary felt like a great place to take a short run. The pond itself looks a little… murky… but from our view from the “scenic overlook,” that didn’t seem to bother the ducks. Or the egret? Or the crane? Or the over-sized bird.

Though clearly abutting residences on three sides, the property felt far away, like wandering through one of my parents’ favorite places in Flo-rida. Even if we only make it a few blocks away, my time with Bad Elizabeth is always an adventure.
